Melasma, Rosacea, Acne, Eczema & Psoriasis: Understanding Your Skin

Pigmentation, breakouts, redness and inflammation can all look similar on the surface but come from very different causes, so they don't respond to the same treatment. Understanding what's actually happening in your skin is the first step to treating it well.
At Soraya Skin Clinic, we assess before we treat, combining professional skin treatments with our new Dermalux Flex MD LED Phototherapy where it's appropriate.
Melasma
Melasma shows up as symmetrical brown or grey-brown patches, usually across the cheeks, forehead and upper lip. Hormones, genetics, UV exposure and even visible light can all play a role, and because melasma is sensitive to inflammation, overly aggressive treatment can sometimes make it worse. Daily SPF 50+ is non-negotiable for managing it.
We may recommend
- Dermalux Flex MD Red LED to support a more even tone
- Pigment-focused Aspect or DMK treatments
- Carefully selected BioRePeel® for suitable skin
- A personalised home skincare and SPF routine
Our approach is gradual and conservative rather than aggressively resurfacing.
Rosacea
Rosacea brings persistent redness, flushing, sensitivity and sometimes acne-like bumps. The skin barrier is often compromised, so gentle treatment, trigger avoidance and consistent sunscreen matter more than intensity.
We may recommend
- Dermalux Flex MD Red and Near-Infrared LED to support recovery and reduce the appearance of redness
- Gentle, barrier-supportive Aspect or DMK treatments
- A simplified, hydration-focused home routine
During an active flare, we avoid aggressive peels, skin needling and strong exfoliation.
Acne
Acne ranges from congestion and blackheads to inflammatory breakouts and deeper lesions, often leaving pigmentation or scarring behind.
Our new Dermalux Flex MD is particularly useful here: its 415nm blue light targets acne-associated bacteria, while red and near-infrared support recovery.
Depending on your skin, we may combine
- Dermalux Flex MD LED Phototherapy
- Hydro-microdermabrasion for congestion
- BioRePeel®
- Targeted DMK or Aspect treatments
- Skin needling for post-acne texture and scarring, once active inflammatory acne is under control
Active acne is brought under control before we target scarring specifically.
Eczema
Eczema causes dry, itchy, sensitive, irritated skin. While it's actively flaring, cosmetic treatment isn't the priority. Restoring the barrier and controlling inflammation is.
For stable skin, we may consider
- Gentle LED Phototherapy to support recovery
- Carefully selected hydrating, barrier-supportive treatments
- A simplified skincare routine to minimise irritation
We avoid peels, microdermabrasion and skin needling over active eczema. Moderate, severe or persistent eczema should be assessed by your GP or dermatologist.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis causes thickened, scaly, inflamed patches of skin. The Dermalux Flex MD is medically CE-certified for psoriasis, making LED a supportive option we can consider after an appropriate skin assessment.
It's worth noting Dermalux LED is not the same as the narrowband UVB phototherapy dermatologists commonly prescribe for psoriasis, so moderate or extensive psoriasis should stay medically managed.
We avoid peels, skin needling and microdermabrasion directly over active plaques.
Where LED Phototherapy Fits In
The Dermalux Flex MD delivers three wavelengths, used alone or combined:
| Wavelength | Best for |
|---|---|
| Blue 415nm | Acne and breakout-prone skin |
| Red 633nm | Rejuvenation, repair, overall skin health |
| Near-Infrared 830nm | Recovery, reducing the appearance of inflammation and redness |
Because LED is non-invasive and doesn't exfoliate or resurface, it layers well alongside our other treatments rather than replacing them.
The Soraya Approach
There's rarely one right treatment for pigmentation, acne, redness or sensitive skin. It depends on your skin, not just your diagnosis. We assess first, then build a plan from the most appropriate mix of Dermalux LED Phototherapy, DMK, Aspect, BioRePeel®, hydro-microdermabrasion and skin needling.
For inflammatory or medically diagnosed conditions like rosacea, eczema and psoriasis, our treatments are designed to support your skin alongside medical care, not replace it.
